Experience Details* Discover the medieval village of Óbidos, a place so romantic that, in 1282, King Dinis gave it to his bride Isabel as a wedding gift. Get your bearings on a short, guided walk around some of the prettiest streets, passing the whitewashed church of Santa Maria. Then, explore by yourself this picture–perfect village – a maze of quaint cobbled lanes, brightly painted houses, and overflowing flowerpots. At its centre is the imposing 12th century castle, recently voted one of the ‘7 Wonders of Portugal'.You'll also have an opportunity to sample Ginjinha, the local cherry liqueur, at one of the local taverns. Shop for souvenirs on the main street, Rua Direita. Here you'll find local crafts such as hand–painted azulejo tiles and regional flavours including tasty liqueurs. |
